Performance:
The Art of Collaboration
(w/Nathan Hactivist)
4/24, 1-5 PM EST, Univ of Buffalo

For four hours, Lichty & Hactivist will have an experimental conversation at University of Buffalo during the Free Cooperation summit which will test the boundaries between performance and discourse.

In practice the event will consist of an open-ended conversation on the nature, representation and life of collaborations, with Lichty & Hactivist starting the converation, with only 8 respondents permitted to participate at a time. In addition, if no respondents come to the presentation, Lichty and Hactivist plan to 'go mobile' by invading/colonizing other conversations at the summit. In this way, this event will also tset the priciples of collaboration put forth in the opening texts of the Free Collaboration summit.

The Opacity of the Stream
(Collab. w/M. Takeo Magruder)
Real-time Flash Visualzation

Within the computer's organization, there are layers oof interpretations and communications protocols that human information has to pass through before we can interpret it.

In every computer, there are immense streams of information that absolutely incomprehensible to humans. Even if it is readily incomprehensible, can it have a shape, an aesthetic?

This installation takes the datastreams of external text input fromt he Web, combined with information stored in a server-side database to create real-time animations of DataMatrix encoded information, which both reveals the aesthetics od raw data, and the opacity of the internal codes of the computer
