Artworks Title

(re)cursor was my first experiment in non-linear narrative through the use of multiple interfaces representing multiple trajectories through the short aphoristic essay. SInce this web-based piece was created in 1994 - few options existed for advanced interactivity, so options were limited to clickable hyperlinked images.

The structure consisted of a series of aphoristic concepts on the virtual world, ironic images of that world and a numeric linear interface. Each of these sets of interfaces created what I called a 'narrative lattice' where users could explore three distinct representations of the piece, or splice any combination thereof. It was a distant harbinger of my work in associative texts.
