Stickyworld (2006) |
|
Stickyworld is an experiment which plays with the idea of horizon, gravity, and orientation in relation to human perception by eliminating the necessity of the notions of "up", "down", or "horizon". In this work, the visitor begins at the base of a large tower, with few instructions other than to explore. Upon approaching the tower, the astute visitor will notice that they gravity is only relative to wherever they are standing, allowing them to "stick" to the side of a wall. Upon seeing this, the visitor can then explore all ten floors of the tower, and even walk onto/"kiss" the sky. Like the classic movie where Fred Astaire, danced on the walls and the ceiling, the visitor can walk anywhere, exploring the closed world of Stickyworld. The installation is projected on a stereoscopic 3D projection screen, and is interacted with using wireless gyroscopic mouse movements. |
