LEARN THE TRUTH ABOUT SITUATIONIST ALIEN ABDUCTION!
Really ! We mean it!
8 bits or less

is a journey into covert video.
explores the society of the spectacle, hungry pets, and alien abduction.
8 bits or less?
yes. as DV typically employs 24-bit images, 8BoL was shot with a Casio watchcam, producing 8-bit grayscale imagery at a resolution of 120x120 pixels, resampled to video resolutions. the result is a grainy, low frame rate video that is textural and is similar to early cinematic experiments.
Why 8 bits?
as Matisse felt that realism does not equal truth, a work is not equal to the clarity of its image. also, 8BoL adopts a low tech aesthetic, choosing to showcase minimal tech to explore a Richteresque mediated perception, as well as a textural approach to digital video.
nomadic video?
digital imaging technology is already miniaturizing to the point when wrist-mounted video is foreseeable. 8BoL anticipates this development when personal recording devices could be anywhere, undetected by the casual onlooker.
This was done using 8-bit equipment?
Mostly. The images were captured in 8-bit grayscale with a Casio WristCam, and the music was created on an Commodore 64 computer. the video was compiled and edited using contemporary techniques.
